Scientists invent a new type of printing paper that can be printed repeatedly without using ink

Recently, Yadong Yin, a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Riverside, collaborated with colleagues from Shandong University in China and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States to develop a new type of printing paper. According to reports, the printing paper can print out text without the need of ink irradiation by ultraviolet rays.

Scientists invent a new type of printing paper that can be printed repeatedly without using ink

It is reported that the printing paper can be erased after heating, and can be printed more than 80 times.

It is understood that the new printing paper uses two types of nanoparticles, one of which is the common non-toxic blue pigment Prussian blue, and the other is the non-toxic chemical substance titanium dioxide. Both of these nanoparticles can react when exposed to light. Mixing these two nanoparticles in a solution and then coating them on a piece of ordinary paper will make them dark blue.

In the printed text experiment, the scientists placed a mask with etched fonts on the treated paper. When exposed to ultraviolet light, the photons in the ultraviolet light will contact the nanoparticles of titanium dioxide through the hollowed holes in the mask, and then these nanoparticles will release electrons. These electrons combine with Prussian blue nanoparticles and become colorless.

In addition, scientists have also developed a prototype printer that supports ultraviolet printing. Scientists look forward to the future development of printers that can print ultraviolet light on standard-sized paper, and also hope that they can print in full color.

According to reports, the handwriting of the text printed by ultraviolet light can be kept for at least 5 days, and the handwriting on the paper can be easily eliminated after heating for 10 minutes. This paper that supports repeated printing can be used to make news paper, notepads and price tags that often need to be adjusted.
