The carnation of OPTON's microcosm 11th Mother's Day

Preface

In October, the fetus was very heavy, and the three students regained their weight. In May, the air of carnations was everywhere in the air. The carnations are straight, the flowers are beautiful, and the flowers are quiet. The second Sunday of May each year is a very human holiday – Mother's Day, a carnation that is an indispensable gift to the mother. The association between Carnation and Mother's Day stems from the first US Mother's Day commemorative stamp issued in May 1934. The stamp depicts a mother sitting quietly and putting her hands on her lap, watching a bunch of bright and beautiful carnations in the front vase (Figure 1). Later, with the spread of stamps, many countries linked carnations to Mother's Day, and carnations became a symbol of maternal love, which was especially respected by people. Various countries have also issued a variety of Mother's Day stamps to express their emphasis on Mother's Day. China Construction Bank also issued a set of carnation flower stamps in 2013 (Figure 2), pinning this gratitude and thoughts on the mother. On the carnation.

We all know that carnation is a flower for the mother, and every petal of her is full of gratitude, which makes people feel warm. So, do you understand the microstructure of the petals of carnations under scanning electron microscopy? Today, Xiaobian uses the ZEISS EVO MA series of scanning electron microscopes to briefly introduce the wonderful world of carnation petals.

First, the choice of carnation samples

Xiaobian purchased a pair of red carnation flowers at the flower shop. Based on the long storage time of the dried petals, we removed the petals and stigmas, placed them on the filter paper, dried them naturally for 48 hours at room temperature, and then used conductive glue. Carnation petals and stigma stick to the sample pile (Figure 3).

Second, the carnation petals under scanning electron microscope

Let's take a look at the microscopic image of the carnation petals taken with the ZEISS EVO MA series of scanning electron microscopes. The front of the petals (Fig. 4) and the back (Fig. 5) were observed, and the petals, the center of the petals, and the petals were photographed. A microscopic image of the root. Through observation, it is found that the edges of the petals of the carnation are tooth-shaped and irregular. After magnifying 500 times, the petals have many array-like bulging structures. This epidermal structure can protect the petals and enhance photosynthesis. Flowers grow. Due to the dry petals, some of the raised particles have collapsed, but the structure is still very obvious. We compare the front and back sides of the petal edge and find that the gap between the embossed structure of the front petal edge is slightly larger than the gap of the reverse convex structure. This is because the epidermis on the petal is responsible for sensing and receiving sunlight, plus transpiration and respiration. For other reasons, the convex gap between the front and back of the petals is different. This structure is also responsible for the slightly different colors of the front and back of the petals.

The center of the petal is also an array of grain bulges, but the particle size is larger than the particle size of the edge. The roots and backs of the petals are fibrous, which is the "blood vessel" that transports nutrients to the petals. The "blood vessels" are connected to each other and have a close relationship. Perhaps it is such an array of raised structures and the "vascular" roots of the fibers. It also shows that the carnations are given to the mother, symbolizing the close relationship between the mother and the child, embodying the virtues of human love and filial piety.

3. Carnation stigma under scanning electron microscope

Generally speaking, the flower's flower is divided into two parts: the pistil and the stamen. The pistil can be divided into the lower fertile ovary and the upper sterile stigma. The upper part of the style is further developed to form the stigma. During the flower fertilization process, the pollen falls on the stigma first. The pollen tube grows, the pollen tube enters the ovary through the style column, and finally the fusion of the male and female gametes is completed. It can be seen that the flower column plays an important role in the fertilization process of the flower. In Figure B's B", it is clear that the stigma branches are differentiated from many stupid branches, and the structure is tight. Just like a mother holding a child, these stigma branches seem to be facing the style column. "Mom, I love you." Thank you for giving me life and raising my strength!"

postscript

Although the origin of Mother's Day will find a lot of information on the Internet with a one-click search, Xiaobian still wants to popularize it here: Mother's Day was first raised in the United States, advocated by a mother named Jarvis, and later Founded by her daughter Anna Jarvis, and officially designated as a national holiday in the United States in 1914, in order to commemorate the mother of Jarvis, she will be her second day, the second in May each year. On Sunday, it is designated as Mother's Day. After the founding of Mother's Day in the United States, the United States has received support from people all over the world. Today, there are more countries to commemorate this festival. Mother's Day has become a veritable international festival.

On the occasion of the upcoming Mother's Day, Ou Bo and all the mothers of the world will always be healthy and long-lived, always happy and beautiful!
