CTP Introduction

It can be said that the plate is a bottleneck restricting the promotion and application of computer direct plate making. Judging from the current market, the direct plate-making version is dependent on imports. Its price is 25%-40% higher than that of the ordinary PS plate. Considering other factors (such as re-mastering), the CTP technology is actually used for commercial printing companies, the cost of the plate will be 33% to 60% higher; for businesses engaged in newspaper printing, it will be 100% higher. ~150% of new plates that do not require development are more expensive. If the thermal plate can be mass-produced in the future, the price will be cheaper, equivalent to twice the price of the PS plate. Therefore, the localization of the plate will be particularly prominent.
Pre-press also needs to increase investment. If direct platemaking technology is used, the printing plant must have the necessary prepress system. There are many printing companies that may have only presses and no prepress equipment, because there is a special output center that can output films, and the printer can print and print as long as they accept the film sent by the customer. However, if the printing factory adopts the direct plate making technology, all accepted digital documents provided by customers, the printing factory must purchase the corresponding prepress equipment, and if necessary, also perform scanning or modification work for the customer. Many small and medium-sized enterprises do not currently have prepress equipment. If they have a direct plate-making machine, they will have to reinvest to purchase the corresponding prepress equipment. This is also a burden for enterprises.
In addition, domestic newspaper companies currently use the typesetting system of Beijing University Founder and Weifang Huaguang, because most of the system versions are not international standards, and the interface of RIP must be solved before being directly processed. The most critical technical issue is how to connect the plate-making machine to the domestic RIP. The computer-to-plate system must use digital color proofing. The HP 8500 color laser printer, with a very good price/performance ratio, supports a variety of color management systems, with a color print speed of 6 pages per minute, black and white printing of 24 pages per minute, and an accuracy of 2400 dpi. And consumables are also cheaper than ink-jet printer supplies. It is estimated that each fee is between 0.25 and 3 yuan.
At present, the price of direct plate-making machines is high. Now foreign investors give us quotes of 200,000 to more than 300,000 US dollars, and the price is high. Of course, with the fierce competition, the price of direct plate-making machines may be lowered. However, in order to promote the use of direct plate-making technology in China as soon as possible, the price of direct plate-making machines must be reduced to allow customers to accept it because it is more than double the price of traditional plate-making equipment, and many newspaper companies cannot buy only one set. What is gratifying is that the Planning and Investment Division has included the relevant contents in the project of “Double High and Excellent” (high-tech transformation of traditional industries, high-tech industrialization, optimization of industrial structure), and there are currently 2 foreign companies interested in domestic manufacturers. Cooperation in the domestic assembly of direct plate-making machine, once the cooperation is successful, I believe there will be cheaper plate-making machine to the domestic market. More importantly, China is also developing its own direct platemaking machine.
The photosensitive polymer research center of Beijing Normal University and the second film factory of Lucky Film Group Co., Ltd. have signed a co-development agreement for the thermosensitive CTP plate in August 1998. In April 1999, it was the first to use the Triumph 3244 platesetter. In the second test, the plate size was 1030 mm × 780 mm. The latent image could be produced on the positive plate CTP plate without preheating treatment, and a clear image could be produced after the development. A latent image can be produced on a negative experimental plate, but sensitivity and development suitability still need to be improved. Using the photo-thermal method of the negative image, the image quality is close to that of the Kodak version, and sample proofs are printed. Although this is only the "first step of the Long March," we have seen encouraging signs and everyone is encouraged. Recently preparing for the second time, I believe it will take one more step. The light-heat CTP plate and the plate material corresponding to the near-ultraviolet laser diode are unified, and work has started since the two companies started cooperation.
In the future, the application of digital workflow will become more popular. In the future, RIP will be faster and more powerful. In particular, processing large files will be faster. The price of high-power laser devices required for thermal imaging platemaking will drop to the price acceptable to the user. The 830 nm infrared laser diode is likely to become the thermal imaging plate making laser device of choice for people.
Precautions when using CTP system:
1. Imposition problem. Due to the complexity of the layout of newspapers, the composition of each title layout is ever-changing (including electronic documents, films, papers, etc.). Therefore, imposition software is required to have good adaptability and compatibility.
2. Printing plate color mark problem. In the traditional platemaking process, the colored plates of various colors are affixed on the film to the respective block plates during the printing process, or are directly output to the facing film by the facing machine. In the new CTP process, there is no color mark on each color plate output by the plate-making machine, so it must be created in the RIP or imposition software of the CTP system.
Careful, careful, and careful attention is required during the direct platemaking operation.
Although direct platemaking simplifies the process, it also reduces the chances of people seeing and checking for mistakes. If they are mistaken, they will make mistakes. Once errors are found, the entire version must be reproduced. Therefore, although computer-to-plate making simplifies the process flow and improves the accuracy of registration, if an error occurs, it will require re-creating, which will increase costs virtually. At present, collages can be made with film printing, but if a plate is directly plated, one piece is inadvertently discarded.
The main manufacturers and distributors of CTP platesetters have more than 200 direct platesetters in the world. Heidelberg has sold more than 1,000 platesetters and Barco has sold more than 500 platesetters. Agfa also installed more than 200 Galileo, Polaris and Antares systems around the world. The DMX-2737 direct platemaking machine of the Danish Baoluodefu Company adopts an internal drum structure. The maximum size of the printing plate is 690mm x 940mm. The light source is a frequency-doubling YAG laser (532nm) with a resolution of 900 to 2032 dpi, continuously variable. There are also more than 100 CTP users worldwide.
