The printing process with different color gamuts ( such as different paper ) or the printer's color production (Reproduction) as close as possible, can make the separation better. Since the color gamut of different printing or printing processes is also different, we should use the color gamut of this process as much as possible to achieve the best results. So the advantage of using Spectral Data (usually in LAB data ) to select colors at desktop publishing is to maintain a Device Independent color gamut. As long as our printing process or printer's color gamut can cover the color of this Lab Data , we can accurately reproduce the color.  

Photoshop is an important piece of software that is published on the desktop. Almost all prints are also modified by Photoshop . A basic set

Now that about 80% of the color management settings in Photoshop 6 are set in the Color Settings in the Edit menu . In this Color Settings window, you will find that there are first settings in the highest position. If you are opening Photoshop 6 for the first time , you will find that Settings is Web Graphics Default . Preset Photoshop5 same, Adobe Photoshop6 preset to do the online image, in short, of the RGB Working Space is set to sRGB. Pay attention to the small color gamut of sRGB , which is smaller than the printable color of the common CMYK four-color printing process. It is not enough for printing users to use, affecting the effect of color separation in Photoshop . So after installing Photoshop 6 , be sure to change this setting.

When you press Menu next to Settings , you notice that there are ten choices, including Custom . Which one should we use? In fact, each user should have different settings. These ten presets are just a starting point for reference. For example, users in Europe may choose to use Europe Prepress Default as a blueprint.  

Then I want to use 100% ICC for color management in Hong Kong . How should I set it up ?

First, you should select US Prepress Default as a blueprint and make changes. At the same time, you should select the square next to Advance Mode , otherwise Photoshop6 will not allow us to choose our own ICC profile . (See Figure 1 )  

II . Setting of each Working Space  

First of all, RGB Working Space should select Adobe RGB ( 1998 ) as the working gamut of RGB images. The advantage of Adobe RGB ( 1998 ) is that the color gamut is moderate in size, larger than the general color gamut of CMYK printing, and can be used as much as possible to the printing color gamut. Therefore, it has been widely accepted as a prepress standard.

The CMYK Working Space should select our printed or scripted ICC Profile . This sets the working color gamut of the CMYK image and also affects the effect of Soft Proofing on the display . Therefore, we should be according to our printing process (e.g., light pink paper, newspaper) of each image, selecting the corresponding light pink paper or newspaper ICC Profile, or if the user wants to reuse Photoshop4 Photoshop5 set of CMYK, CMYK can select the Custom, using The dot Gain setting of the ink , of course, the color displayed by the monitor will not be as accurate as using the ICC Profile !
