Exxon-Mobil Chemicals to Launch New Metallocene Ethylene-Propylene Elastomers

According to overseas media reports, Exxon-Mobil Corporation of the United States plans to launch its new series of specialty ethylene-propylene elastomers Dubbed Vistamaxx in the first half of 2004 with metallocene catalysts and solution polymerization processes.
According to reports, this thermoplastic elastomer is superior to metallocene plastomers (such as the company's Exact) and is suitable for the preparation of cast films, fibers and modified polyolefins (including TPO), and has a wide range of applications and can be used to manufacture automobiles. Interior trims, exterior trims, and nonwovens, packaging, personal hygiene products, and wire and cable.
According to the researchers, Vistamaxx is a special semi-crystalline elastomer that is compatible with other polymers and is easy to process. It can be used as a raw material alone or as a blend with other polymers. The processability when preparing a cast film is very similar to that of polypropylene. The film properties are: density less than 1.0 g/cm3, elongation at break greater than 500%, tensile strength greater than 24.5 MPa, flexural modulus 10 .5-11.2 MPa. In addition, Vistamaxx toughened polypropylene is superior to metalloid plastomers and does not reduce material flow and stiffness. The product is easy to flow pellets.
