1 Weigh 50g of a sample to the nearest ±0.1g.

2 Plug the small hole in the bottom of the funnel by hand and pour the weighed 50g sample into the funnel. Note that the powder must fill the entire small hole at the lower end of the funnel.

3 Instantly open the funnel hole and start timing. Once the powder in the funnel has finished flowing, stop timing immediately.

4 Record the time required for all samples in the funnel to flow, and repeat it three times, take the arithmetic mean, and record the time to the nearest 0.1s.

Note: If the powder does not flow when the hole is opened, tap it on the funnel to start the flow of the powder. However, even if this is done, the powder does not flow out or the powder stops flowing during the measurement, and the powder is considered to have no fluidity.

Test Results

The arithmetic mean of the three sample measurements is multiplied by the funnel correction factor, and the data is reported in s/50g, and the reported data is accurate to 0.5 s.

Funnel standard

5.1 Standard samples are made of silicon carbide with a particle size of less than 106 μm. When tested on a standard funnel in accordance with the method specified in this standard, the flowability of the standard sample shall be 40 ± 0.5 s / 50 g.

5.2 The funnel has been calibrated before leaving the factory. When the user is calibrated with a standard sample before starting use, the correction factor is determined. Standard samples should be pre-dried in air at 105 ± 10 ° C for 30 min and then placed in a desiccator to cool to room temperature. Then, according to the measurement sample, the flowability of the standard sample is measured, and the measurement is repeated 6 times. Except the first time, the other 5 measurement results take the arithmetic mean. In general, the maximum difference between the measurements is required to be no more than 0.4s. Assuming that the time for the 50 g standard sample to flow from the standard funnel is 40 s, the correction factor for the funnel is 40.0 divided by the arithmetic mean of the five measurements.

5.3 The funnel should be regularly calibrated with the standard sample during use. If the flow time of the standard sample in the funnel changes, the new correction factor should be calculated from the newly measured time average.

Note: 1. It is recommended to study the cause of the change before the new correction factor is adopted. If the time is shortened, it means that due to the repeated use of the funnel, the small hole becomes larger due to the wear of the powder, which proves that the new correction number is correct. On the contrary, the flow time is long, indicating that a soft powder is attached to the wall of the small hole, and the attachment should be carefully removed, and then the test is repeated.

2. When the funnel is used for a period of time, when the flow time measured with 50g standard sample is shortened to less than 37s, the funnel should be scrapped and replaced with a new funnel.
