Agfa Introduces Two New AgfaJet Sherpa Scripting Systems

In order to meet the needs of the graphic arts industry for large-format digital contract drafting, Agfa launched two new models of the AgfaJet Sherpa scripting system, including the large format AgfaJet Sherpa 54 and the large format (VLF) AgfaJet Sherpa 62, format size It is 54 inches and 62 inches respectively (1inch = 2.54cm). Combining six-color printing capabilities and an advanced color management system provides accurate color output. The two latest digital color-printing systems provide accurate color for large-format applications, with high-resolution resolutions of 1440 x 720 dpi and 720 x 720 dpi and high-speed resolutions of 360 x 360 dpi, both of which are used in high-speed mode. The AgfaJet Sherpa54 and 62 are available in six colors, in addition to cyan, magenta, yellow and black, plus light magenta and light cyan. These two extra colors make the highlights softer and easier to mix with difficult colors such as skin tone.

The two high-precision push-type printers use a highly efficient piezoelectric ink-jet system that saves ink and maintains good quality.

Agfa's AgfaJet Sherpa is equipped with the Agfa Apogee Series 2 high-performance Proofer RIP running on Windows NT to automatically arrange and print jobs. This Postscript 3 RIP can also handle eight-bit synthesis files and separated output files, making the AgfaJet Sherpa 54 provide flexible and high-quality output. The raster processing time, materials used, and other operating parameters are also displayed so that the user can calculate the cost after printing.

The Apogee Series 2 RIP ensures the integrity and connectivity of laser image output machines or platesetters, drafters and workflow systems.

Agfa's well-designed Sherpa can easily integrate into any workflow. With the Agfa Apogee PrintDrive plug-in, the workflow is more efficient. Apogee PrintDrive is part of Agfa’s PDF-based Apogee production system, which was awarded an editorial award by Seybold in 1999. PrintDrive uses one or more RIPs to manage the output of print image files (PIFs) and control the output flow to a range of output devices, including Agfa’s laser image output machines, drafters, or platesetters.

The driver designed for Apogee PrintDrive incorporates a color management system to make the color of dot-printing more accurate and realistic.

When used as a newspaper editor, Sherpa can configure Agfa's Intellinet workflow system. Intellinet's production mode allows users to transfer specific pages or sections of newspapers to the drafting machine in PS or PDF file format, with the advantages of buffer processing, job layout and color management within the Proofer RIP.

For other workflows, Sherpa can work with Rampage and PCC workflows. DI Plot can be applied to other formats.

The ColorTune color management software running on the Proofer RIP uses Sherpa's six colors to make accurate, ICC-compliant color profiles. Users can select from ColorTune's archive or create their own profile to match any output device. ColorTune's color characteristics technology can use specific algorithms based on different applications such as scanning, scripting, screen drafting, offset printing, etc., to match different presses or simulate traditional drafting equipment.

AgfaJet Sherpa is capable of matching up to 85% of Pantone colors on the masterpiece, thanks to Agfa's color management software using the Pantone Certified Lab archive to pair all CMYK color spaces (including light cyan and magenta).

The same automatic output linearization software running on the Apogee Proofer RIP produces the best color matching (using an optical spectrum analyzer - Agfa calibrated color scale and Xrite DTP 41).

The latest version of Agfa's ColorTune also includes two color measurement modules - ColorPicker and measurement tools - from GretagMacBeth / Logo. The ColorPicker module allows the user to measure any color and convert it to the CYMK color format used in Sherpa. The user can modify the color at any time as needed. The measurement tool extends ColorTune's measurement function from the screen display to the printout. Users can compare and calculate all color data.

AgfaJet Sherpa54 and 62 will be sold together with AgfaJet large-format printing paper. This is a large-format printing consumable designed for high-resolution piezoelectric inkjet output, which can further improve the accuracy of color.
