CC Wong's career has always been printing. He has been interested in pre-press and desktop publishing for more than 15 years. He studied printing technology at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom in 1993, and obtained a bachelor of honours in 1996. Since then, he has also been studying without interruption in work or field training.
In this issue, I will continue to introduce the remaining six tools of the Print Production Tool Bar, namely "Add Printer Marks", "Crop Pages", "Fix Hairlines", "Transparency Flattening", "PDF Optimizer" and "JDF" Job Definitions ".
Add Printer Marks
Printing marks include cut corners, bleeding lines, color crosshairs, color control strips, file names, etc., which can help DTP and CtF users, such as the process of film making, and the planner can aim at the color crosshairs to imprint and print And in the drafting (whether traditional or digital), adding color control strips to each page can help our eyes judge or use the density meter to measure the ink density and dots of the color draft. In addition, the cut corners allow us to check the size of the file, and the film assembler can also know the cutting position.
To add printing marks on a PDF page, the first condition is that the area of the paper or media (Page or Media Size) must be larger than the area of the document (Document Size), there must be enough white space on all four sides of the document (at least about half a inch? Thistle? 3mm ) Place the printing mark, otherwise the printing mark cannot be added successfully. Even if Acrobat lets you perform the action of Add Printer Marks, it will not warn or suggest that the Page Size is not enough.
To add printing marks, just press the icon of Add Printer Marks on the printing tool bar (see Figure 1), its dialogue window will pop up, here we select the desired printing mark, and then press OK, Figure 2 shows adding printing marks After the result.

Crop Pages
Sometimes the size of the PDF file is large, then Crop Pages can allow us to easily change the size of the file. If the Page Size is larger than the Document Size, you can also use Crop Pages to increase the file size. If you want to change the size of the document, click the Crop Pages icon on the printing toolbar. After the Crop Pages dialog window appears, first click Art (Acrobat Chinese version translated as a work), and then decide the distance between the four sides of the document, and the four sides of the document from the paper The fewer the files, the larger the files.

Fix Hairlines
Output or printing companies often encounter printed documents with very fine lines, which may be less than 0.06point (about 20 microns or 0.02mm). Generally, offset printing above 175LPI or 20-micron FM screen printing can accept 0.06point lines. If the line is too small, it may be broken or not printed at all.
The Fix Hairlines tool can help us modify out-of-specification thin lines. For example, if you use the Preflight tool (introduced in the previous issue) to find very thin lines in the file, then we can correct all the thin lines in the file and change them to 0.06point Or thicker lines (some paper such as book paper needs thick lines) to meet the requirements of printing, of course, it is best to know the other party when modifying the customer's file.
To make the thin lines in the file thicker, you can click the Fix Hairlines icon on the printing toolbar. Of course, you can also click the Acrobat menu ─Tools> Print Production> Fix Hairlines. The dialog window that pops up lets us set the required Value and correction range. If the font line thickness correction is included, different font styles and font sizes will have different effects, so it is best to check after the action.

Transparency Flattening
Many graphic design works will use transparent effects. In fact, the printing world (whether digital or traditional printing) does not have transparency or three-dimensional, at most only transparent or three-dimensional visual effects. PostScript RIP for CtF, CtP, and digital printing cannot handle transparent objects. Some new pre-press systems now include transparent processing. Before RIP, transparent objects and low-level objects have been planarized (equal to opacity). Perform RIP work; if the transparent processing function is stopped, then RIP will stop working or issue an error warning when it encounters a PDF with transparent objects.
Some old systems do not have the transparent processing function. At this time, we can use the Transparency Flattening tool to flatten the work. Click the relevant icon on the printing toolbar. In the Transparency Flattening dialog window, you can check whether there are transparent objects in the file. The coloring place is the transparent object (and the affected area), we first select the object to be viewed, and then click Refresh to display the result. If there is a transparent object and you want to flatten it, you can push the Flattening Settings slider to rasterize the vector object to the left, and leave the vector object to the right to avoid being rasterized. Rasterizing the object is equivalent to flattening it. Therefore, the more the slider is to the left, the more objects will be flattened. Remember to click Apply after setting the option, otherwise the flattening will not take effect, and finally press OK.

Transparency Flattening can view and change transparent elements
PDF Optimizer
The PDF Optimizer on the printing toolbar (the second one from the bottom right corner of Figure 8) can optimize PDF files, which means removing unnecessary or unnecessary things in the file, or compressing / compressing images (down- sampling), etc., the optimal setting depends on the purpose of use. For example, customers sometimes request that the corrected PDF be sent to him for review by email, but the PDF may be several MB or more, so it is a little difficult to send by email. If the PDF can be reduced to a small size, it can be sent by email. Depending on the content and optimization settings of the PDF, some can be greatly reduced, and some can only be reduced. If the file has more bitmaps, it may be greatly reduced, because the bitmap can be greatly reduced by JPEG or other compression methods.
PDF Optimizer has some settings similar to Distiller. To activate this function, click the PDF Optimizer icon in the printing toolbar. There is an Analyze button in the upper right corner of the dialog window. It can analyze the content of the file and let us know that it takes up a lot of space. If the image occupies a larger space, the image can be reduced by reducing the size of the case; and if the font occupies more space, then removing the font can reduce the file capacity, of course, the original appearance of the file cannot be preserved (If the other party's system does not have a corresponding font).
JDF Job Definitions
The last function of the printing toolbar is the JDF editor. JDF is very similar to Adobe Extreme or the Job Ticket of some pre-press systems, but not only includes pre-press information, it is equivalent to a very detailed printing work order, including all printing production Information, even accounting and transportation information. At present, JDF is still in its infancy, and there are not many supported systems and equipment.
