In addition, in order to increase the electrical properties of the thin film, scientists also need to use a process called "doping" to add defective nanoparticles to it.
The new method solves the above two problems. Scientists use an ionized gas, non-thermal plasma, not only to produce silicon nanocrystals, but also to cover the surface with a layer of chlorine atoms, which will interact with many widely used solvents, This means that it is no longer necessary to use ligand molecules to produce a silicon ink with a long shelf life. Moreover, they also found that the film printed by this silicon ink was naturally doped with a solvent, thereby increasing the conductivity of the film by 1,000 times.
