Traditional printing techniques enter the cultural heritage expansion project directory

On June 14, the wooden movable type printing technology in Ruian City, Zhejiang Province, which has a history of more than 800 years, has been included in the second national intangible cultural heritage list.

June 14th was China's third "Cultural Heritage Day". The State Council issued "Notice on Announcement of the Second Batch of State-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists and the First Batch of State-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Extension Projects" on the same day. The reporter saw from the website of the Chinese government that in the list of the first batch of state-level intangible cultural heritage extension projects announced at the same time, three traditional printing techniques were on the list: the woodblock watermark technique of the Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Publishing House and the engraving of the Liancheng County, Fujian Province. Printing techniques and Tibetan engraving and printing techniques in Jiangda County, Tibet Autonomous Region (Pologueze engraving art).

It is understood that the wooden movable type printing technique in Dongyuan Village, Pingyangkeng Town, Ruian City, Zhejiang Province originated in the early Yuan Dynasty and was mainly used to print genealogical data. It has passed down 20 generations and counted 800 years of history. Dongyuanmu movable type printing completely reproduces the traditional art of Chinese movable type printing, and has a high historical and humanistic value. The wooden movable type should be selected as a good pear wood, which can be used to make characters after being dried by wind and natural drying. It is learnt that only dozens of people skilled in mastering the full range of wooden movable type printing techniques in Dongyuan Village are now dispersed in the counties and districts of Wenzhou. Ruian City has allocated funds to establish the Dongyuan Wood Type Printing Exhibition Hall and built the Chinese wooden movable type printing village.
