Tinplate packaging and environmental protection

Tinplate is a common name for tinning cold-rolled steel sheet in packaging design. Historically there were hot dip tinplates and electroplated tinplates. As the development of tinplate production, reducing the production cost of tinplate is a strategic goal of the manufacturer. Therefore, by the 1970s, hot dip tinplate was eliminated due to large consumption of tin. With the advancement of the can industry, people's demand for metal containers is increasing. In the 1990s, the main varieties of electroplated tinplate used were: CC steel grades, large-size coarse-grained iron, low-tin or chrome-plated cold-rolled steel sheets, and secondary cold-rolled steel sheets 0.14 to 0.18m/m thick. . The appearance of these types of tinplate not only reduces the cost for manufacturers and can makers, but also more importantly meets various types of cans such as resistance welding tanks, adhesive cans, DRD cans, DI cans, and crown caps, caps, etc. The needs of the packaging of metal containers for food cans, various beverages, oleochemicals, household chemicals, medical and health, cultural and educational supplies and cosmetics and other industries provide the necessary packaging materials.
Each of the above types of tinplates is generally designed to enter the market as a product after being decorated with printed iron. In China, printed iron refers to external printing, and coating refers to internal coating. The outer coating of the inner coating ensures that the tinplate has good canning, canning and decorative appearance. However, the thickness of this coated surface coating is usually only a few microns thick, and it is difficult to completely cover the surface of the tinplate. Therefore, in order to prevent concentrated corrosion at the defect of the organic coating film, the original tinplate must be required to have high Corrosion resistance, surface oxide film to provide dense coating, surface oil layer to ensure that the coating leveling. For this reason, in the late 1990s, tinplate manufacturers developed the “laminated tinplate” that invented hot PET plastic film to solve the above problems and are currently in the market development stage. However, tinplate, chrome-plated iron, and laminated iron cannot be separated from high-quality ink coatings.
1, printing ink must have the following characteristics:
(1) Heat resistance: The ink must have good adhesion with tinplate after being cured by heat, and the pigment does not change color after baking.
(2) Processability: Can withstand bending, stamping, drawing, etc.
(3) Lead-free; ink components do not contain lead.
(4) Dryness: Generally, 1% desiccant has been added to the ink in the ink factory, and 1-2% desiccant has to be added during printing, but it is not suitable to reach more, otherwise the ink is easy to crust or bake during construction. over.
(5) wet coating, no ink loss, fading, color mixing and other ills.
(6) High-temperature sterilization: The ink does not change when the canned food is sterilized.
(7) Lightfastness, weather resistance: It is especially important when only metal container ink coating (without facecoat) is applied.
(8) Transparency: When the metallic surface gloss is used as a printed body, the ink transparency is very important.
(9) White ink: Primer on the metal surface and then coat it.
2. The paints are classified according to the resin system as oily, phenolic, epoxy, vinyl, polyester, acrylic, amino and other resins, and classified according to the purpose of inner coating, outer coating, white coating, and glazing coating. The general anti-sulfur coating is a zinc oxide oleoresin, the acid-resistant coating is an epoxy phenolic resin, a glazing coating, and the white coating is an acrylic resin or a polyester resin.
The above-mentioned various types of coatings and inks are coated on tinplates to become metal container packaging materials. However, due to the release of a large amount of solvent gases during the high-temperature baking process, these solvent gases have obvious odors and the concentration of benzene-containing gases is exceeding the standard, causing severe environmental pollution. Therefore, while developing tinplate printing technology, the environmental protection of waste gas treatment cannot be ignored. In fact, foreign countries have a long exploration process for this waste gas treatment, which consumes a lot of manpower and financial resources. From the high-altitude emissions in the 1960s (expedient measures), the 70s adsorption process (high cost, incomplete), and the 80's catalytic combustion method (high cost), until the 1990s the incineration method has been completely resolved. Nowadays, there are research institutes and production plants of environmental protection equipment in China that are committed to the above-mentioned research on exhaust gas treatment. The realization of catalytic combustion and incineration brings good news to the printing iron industry. In particular, the implementation of the incineration method not only makes up for domestic gaps, but also reduces the operating costs of exhaust gas treatment and has a broader market prospect.
The economy in the 21st century will be a knowledge economy as well as an environmental economy. This is an inevitable trend of the development of the times. Because of the rapid economic development brought about by the reform and opening up in the 1990s, the ecological environment has also been seriously damaged and polluted. Therefore, environmental protection has become the supporting point and growth point for sustained economic development. As far as the printing industry in China is concerned, according to preliminary statistics, there are currently 1,000 painting production lines. Among them, paint drying rooms with severe exhaust gas pollution account for approximately 1/2, each paint drying room is based on the minimum production size (512×712m/m) of 214 coating tinplate, the coating thickness is 5.5g/m2, and the production speed is 4600 sheets/hour. To calculate, emissions will be about 20kg/h per hour, and there will be 300kg of exhaust emissions every day for 15 hours (second shift). Therefore, the degree of environmental pollution can be imagined. In recognition of this, China Packaging Technology Association has set up a designated factory for environmental protection equipment in Shanghai. It specializes in the development and production of incinerators to solve the exhaust gas pollution problems that have not been solved in the printing iron industry for many years. This gives the tinplate packaging business belt More support and a bright future. (Author: China Packaging Technology Association metal containers Committee Yan Yiguo)
